Victorian Steam & Architecture

Victorian Steam & Architecture

In summer 2024 I took my camera and lenses to Connolly Station to join a steam outing to Wexford. In the midst of some gorgeous summer weather the train managed to set fire to half of Wicklow and had to be stopped in Rathdrum. I did take some nice photos, but nothing spectacular.

So a few weeks later when the RPSI were running another event to Kilkenny I decided to leave the camera at home and just enjoy it.  Sometimes when the pressure is off you just spot a moment and my phone stepped up to the challenge. I love how the high contrast pulls out the rivets on the boiler and the silhouettes of the passengers under the glass roof.

I have lost the exif data on this photo, but it is from a Pixel 8 pro and probably one of the phones in-built contrasty b+w filters.

High ISO, an open lens, and an M43 sensor pushed this photo to daubled territory but it is still one of my favourites from our few days in Lisbon. ...
